The Grey Horse is a village pub with distinct spaces, with a relaxed, welcoming feel and a character of its own. Whether you’re stopping in for a quiet pint, meeting friends for a drink, or joining us for one of our regular events, it’s a place to settle in, feel at home, and enjoy the atmosphere.
Each part of The Grey Horse has its own feel, giving you different ways to enjoy the pub - whether you’re after a traditional pint in Brow’s Bar, relaxed drinks with friends in The Lounge Bar, or a bigger night in The Back Room.

Brow’s Bar
Named after a well-remembered former landlady, Brow’s Bar keeps the spirit of the old Grey Horse alive. With real ales on tap, regular guest ales, under-seat heating, and all the character locals remember, it’s a traditional public bar with warmth, familiarity, and a strong sense of place.
The Lounge Bar
Relaxed, welcoming, and made for easy evenings, The Lounge Bar is the perfect place to settle in with a glass of wine, Scottish gin or whisky, a craft beer, or a round of drinks with friends. Comfortable and sociable, it’s a space to unwind, have a natter, and enjoy the pub at its most easy-going.
The Back Room
The Back Room is a private space, separate from the rest of the pub, for parties, private functions, special events, and bigger nights at The Grey Horse. Available for bookings, it offers plenty of atmosphere, its own sense of occasion, and a setting that feels completely your own.
The Beer Garden
A favourite spot on brighter days, The Beer Garden is the perfect place to settle in with a drink and enjoy the sun well into the evening. Relaxed, welcoming, and is Balerno’s outdoor oasis!

We can help you to keep your bike somewhere safe while you’re with us. We’re proudly dog friendly, with water bowls and dog biscuits always at hand.
